Train Series – Installation 1

2014
Mixed media installation and performance
4m x 2.5m x 3m

Installed at Wimbledon Space, this installation explored the relationship between the moving traveller and the city beyond the train window. The view from the train window, in urban space at least, rarely reveals an uninterrupted horizon. Surfaces are collaged together. Moving panoramas are flattened by the window, yet through the movement of the train, you experience the volume of the forms as they pass by. The images in this piece are drawn together from travels around London, and whilst some will recognise specific places, I am also interested in travel in a general sense, and how the interior of the train is as much a part of the city as the landscape passing by.

Construction of the work continued into the show, as I drew for at least 2 hours each day, reflecting the constant state of flux of the city.
